Kate’s First Birthday

April 6, 2010

I was driving home somewhere on 71st when I felt my phone buzz in it’s suede and leather case. Watching as the light turned red, quite conveniently I might dare to add, I quickly answered the call from an unfamiliar number. Now, I certainly won’t fabricate the fact that it took me some time to realize who was on the other end of the line, an old friend of mine from my church’s sound department where I had volunteered some many months ago.  To keep a long story quite short, he had so kindly remembered my love of photography when Patti, a friend of his (now a friend of mine, mind you) needed a photographer for her daughter’s first birthday. I was certainly not expecting for him to tell me that the shoot was in less than 24 hours because, apparently, her previous photographer had something come up that prohibited them from coming! What a dreadful situation!

I hurried home to respond to her e-mails and the hours faded away until I showed up on the doorstep of her and her family’s gorgeous home near downtown Tulsa. The moment I stepped foot inside, finding myself face to face with brightly colored balloons, their strings, and lovely rooms filled with Easter decorations, I felt very much at home. It was not long at all until all of the small guests and their parents arrived, many of them carrying large boxes wrapped with multicolored paper that seemed almost too pretty to lay finger upon in unwrapping.

The activities of the afternon seemed to be so wonderfully suited for the smaller guests, ranging from singing and dancing to egg hunting. And, of course, even the Easter Bunny himself was in attendance. Surely this was a day for beautiful little Kate to remember. What a lovely gem of a child and ever so blessed to be in such a beautiful family. Truly it was ever so beautiful to be there and to have camera in hand, capturing images for the first birthday of many for their little one.

All the best and only the best
