B&W & Color

Inevitably when a photographer sits in front of their computer they contemplate how to edit the images they have created. Black and white…or color? For me, this is a question I rarely ever ask myself. The answer is sort of, you know, a second nature response that I’m sure is fueled by some sub-conscious romanticism. But I will digress before I begin writing a book by evening’s end. Though the answer is easily found, I have been working on projects that require going back through many old wedding images I’ve created. It’s always so interesting to see them in color, as my mother has stated on more than infinite occasions. You may or may not remember when she accused me of being color-phobic. So I have chosen to display a select few images in color beside their black and white counterparts. If not for enjoyment, then to lay to rest the rumors of chromatic fears. Oh, goodness.

Of Hearts & Sketchbooks

I picture the human heart much like I would a sketchbook. Deeper impressions and mistakes are difficult to erase in our own strength, and some are so very light that only with great scrutiny can we admire them.We must allow ourselves a bit of color every now and again so that we do not get trapped in melancholy shades. And so very often we must learn that one piece has reached completion and it is time to turn the page. One must be ever so careful with who they allow to write upon it for it is a fragile and delicate thing. When trying to rid mistakes, we may end up ruining the entire piece in desire for perfection. We mustn’t admire blankness and be afraid to put pen to it. We must keep the book forever open and never close it, but always should it be guarded and kept safe. Some pages are so secret that few will ever view them and there are many that are not written alone. Appearances are deceiving; it cannot run out of pages. A fresh sheet is only a turn away but it requires strength to make it there and to let go of what has been drawn in the past.
